Quant Order Flow Analysis & Tape Reading
Price does not move randomly; it is driven by the continuous interaction between passive resting limit orders and aggressive market orders. Quant Order Flow reveals the true institutional battleground before price action reflects it on traditional charts.
1. Passive Liquidity vs Aggressive Market Liquidity
Every trade requires two parties: a passive provider who places a limit order on the order book (DOM), and an aggressive participant who crosses the bid-ask spread with a market order.
- Passive Limit Orders: Act as liquidity providers and price barriers (support and resistance walls).
- Aggressive Market Orders: Consume resting liquidity and drive price movement across ticks.
2. Identifying Institutional Iceberg Orders
Institutional funds executing 10,000 contracts cannot place them all on the public order book without collapsing the market against themselves. Instead, they use Iceberg algorithms, showing only 50 contracts publicly while refilling behind the scenes.
Gautam Quant Terminal identifies icebergs by measuring Execution-to-Resting volume ratios. When 2,000 contracts trade at an offer level that visibly displayed only 100 contracts, an iceberg buy or sell wall is flagged in real time.
